The immediate past electorate chairman of the North Shore National Party, Matt Kemp, 31, is the first to announce intention to seek selection as the National candidate at the 2011 General Election in place of retiring MP, Hon Dr Wayne Mapp.
In announcing he would seek selection, Mr Kemp, a resident of Bayswater said: "I have been encouraged by many members and former officials of the North Shore National Party to put my name forward. They have been kind enough to say that I have the potential, based on my strong personal ties with the North Shore and service to the party, to follow in the footsteps of the Hons Dean Eyre, George Gair and Wayne Mapp, all of whom have served with profound distinction as MP for our electorate..
“Being the fourth generation of my family to reside in the North Shore, I am well aware of the history and lifestyle of our unique part of New Zealand, and the need to do whatever is necessary at political level to maintain our North Shore values and traditions,” said Mr Kemp.
