North Now announces Christine Rankin as candidate for the Auckland Council

North Now, the independent North Shore/North Harbour ticket, has announced that Christine Rankin will stand for the new Auckland Council in the North Shore ward.

Rankin, a member of the soon-to-disappear Auckland Regional Council, is passionate about preserving the North Shore/North Harbour lifestyle and values within the super city.

“This super city will only work if it has quality leadership and governance and recognises the strength of its constituent parts,” she said.

“I am a North Shore girl and I want to make sure that the North Shore and North Harbour aren’t forgotten in the super city.

“One size does not fit all and for the new Auckland Council to work it has to recognise the contribution of the diverse communities that make up greater Auckland.” Rankin, a former chief executive of Work & Income New Zealand, runs her own Takapuna based business, the Transformational Leadership Company (TLC), which offers leadership training, coaching and mentoring to a range of corporate and individual clients.

She lives on the North Shore with her husband, Kim.

Rankin was the highest-polling regional councillor for North Shore city at the last local body elections. She was elected on an Auckland Citizens & Ratepayers Association ticket.

She is seeking election to the Waitemata District Health Board, also on the North Now ticket. North Now is not aligned to any political party but will work with all parties and independents in the interests of North Shore, North Harbour and greater Auckland. Its supporters come from a range of business, ratepayer and professional circles. Their common ground is a commitment to responsible local government, not least prudent use of ratepayers’ money.
