Mayor Rowan to stand for another term
Mayor Jenny Rowan has confirmed her long-held intention to stand for another term as Mayor of Kapiti.
“This has been a very challenging triennium for me, for my Council colleagues, and for the District, but there are things to be completed and I’m up for another three years,” she says.
Ms Rowan says in-spite of the demands of the job; she still finds local government “interesting and exciting.” “I love Kapiti, I love living here, and I’m still inspired to be the best possible advocate for our District,” she says.
“The reality of local government is that it is very difficult to achieve what you want to in three years. I set out to get things done, I want to cut a few more ribbons and see a number of big projects completed.
“With the airport coming on stream, the new Expressway planned and the railway being electrified and double-tracked, Kapiti is on the cusp of enormous change. I’d like to be part of seeing these through to completion, in a way that is sustainable, and in the best interests of the majority.
“In particular, I want to sign-off on the water project, get things cracking with the Aquatic Centre, sort out the Town Centre land issues, up-grade the Mahara Gallery, and derive the best outcomes from our membership of the NZTA Expressway Alliance.”
Ms Rowan believes she has brought strong leadership to a diverse Council, she has worked hard to ‘stand-up for the District – nationally, regionally and locally,’ and has worked effectively with Council staff.
“This is not a job for the faint hearted. We have a vociferous minority of people who criticize almost anything that’s happening here. We need to turn this energy around.
“What I am committed to is engaging with the majority to create a positive climate for change that will benefit the citizens of the future.”
