Time to Auction Off Prostitution Law
Time to Auction Off Prostitution Law
Family First NZ says that a 19 year old student raising her university fees by ‘prostituting’ her virginity online is an example of the outcome of a flawed prostitution law and it should be immediately repealed.
“It's every parent's worst nightmare that their daughter would prostitute herself to pay fees, or that their son would act as a pimp to raise funds to study,” says Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First NZ. “To end up raising $45,000 shows that unfortunately there are many people who simply see women as a commodity to be purchased.”
“When the politicians
decriminalised prostitution, it still didn't make it right.
There is huge stigma against prostitution and quite
rightly.”
“The underlying message to younger people
was that we condoned it - which was completely out of sync
with public sentiment and the welfare and protection of
vulnerable women.”
“It is a tragedy that this teenager will gain qualifications as a result of selling herself and her virginity to someone who has no respect for her wellbeing or future. $45,000 is still a cheap price for what she will be giving away,” says Mr McCoskrie.
“We'd encourage the 19 year old to keep her virginity - and her dignity.”
“It’s time the government listened to the voice and concern of families and their communities, and repealed the Prostitution Reform Law.”
