Surveillance State Grows Under National

Libertarianz leader Richard McGrath says he is horrified and disgusted with the National Party's support for legislation that forces cellphone providers to allow police and the SIS access to phone calls and text messages.

"This hideous outrage, initiated in 2004 by the Clark regime, has been embraced by John Key and his cronies," said Dr McGrath. “So much for National’s promises to roll back the state.”

"The government will shortly be able to monitor your e-mails, text messages, phone calls and internet surfing, and to track your movements by triangulating the position of your cell phone. Very soon, your private e-mails, texts and conversations will be available to any number of spooks, and who’s to guarantee they won’t be altered or misused if someone in authority takes a dislike to you?"

“Further down the track will be the mandatory installation of GPS transmitters into motor vehicles to allow tracking via satellite and the imposition of driving taxes. Those who think this is paranoia only need to look to Holland, where such a law will be enacted in 2012.”

"New Zealand is starting to resemble East Germany, where there was no privacy and innocent people were scared to do anything that might be misconstrued as remotely subversive," Dr McGrath added

“My party has always resisted the growing trend for state interference in people’s lives. We oppose the ever-growing electronic espionage of New Zealanders by their own government, and if elected we would put a stop to it.”

"Finally, to assist the rapid receipt of this message by the SIS (New Zealand’s equivalent of the Stasi, East Germany’s secret police), I would like to include the following words, which their filters should have no trouble picking up: truck, bomb, terrorist, Allah, jihad."
