Joe Karam Has Never Met Robin Bain
The Justice for Robin Bain group fully support Michael Bain in his efforts to clear his brother's name.
Michael Bain, Robin Bain's brother has spoken out in a radio interview in defence of his brother's reputation, saying that Robin is not capable of the actions ascribed to him by the Defence team in the 2009 retrial. In the Herald of 22 September Joe Karam is quoted as saying that Michael Bain is “in denial” in his impressions of his brother Robin Bain. The inference in this is that Joe Karam knows better than Michael Bain about Robin Bain's character. But Joe Karam has never met Robin Bain and his impressions are based on the very unfounded allegations that Michael Bain reproaches in his radio interview.
How can Joe Karam pretend to know better than Michael Bain about Robin's character when he has never met him and his impressions are based on unfounded allegations? Such allegations made against a living person could attract defamation action.
The Justice for Robin Bain Group has launched an online petition so that the people of New Zealand can have their say. While members of the group do not think that Joe Karam will be able to meet the requirement of balance of probabilities that is necessary in order to get compensation, there is always an outside chance.
People can sign the petition at the following internet address: http://counterspin.co.nz/?q=node/add/signature.
“The David Bain case is an illustration of (an alleged) criminal getting undue attention while the victims are ignored and in the David Bain case, one of the victims has had his reputation slandered in death to serve the interests of the sole survivor.”
