Operation Cobham - Media Release 1
On Saturday evening 1 November 2008, a 15 year old girl was reported missing in Kerikeri. Her disappearance was out of character. The missing girl and her parents had recently moved from Kerikeri to Auckland. She was visiting friends in Kerikeri for the weekend.
The following day, a search by family, friends and Police throughout the day on Sunday failed to locate the missing girl.
At about 5.30pm on Sunday evening, a Police officer searching along the Wairoa stream in Cobham Road, located the body of a female matching the description of the missing girl.
As a result of an initial scene examination, Police have launched a homicide investigation. A Police team of 30 staff are currently working on this investigation. The body has yet to be formally identified and a post mortem will be carried out later today.
Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have noticed this girl in the Inlet Road/Cobham Road/Hone Heke Road area during Saturday afternoon/evening 1 November 2008.
The girl is described as a 15 year old European, medium build, with long straight dark hair and blue eyes. She was wearing black jeans and a sparkly light coloured jersey. She may have been carrying a large bottle of CocaCola.
Anybody who may have seen this girl is urged to contact the Kerikeri Police on 09 4079211.
