Mareikura Supports Rahui Katene and The Maori Party”
Mareikura is proud to announce their support for the Maori Party and have pledged their support for the next 50 years.
Te Mana O Mareikura is a well established community Maori Performing Arts group based in Christchurch that has a passion
for supporting young people, their families and friends.
After watching the Maori Party over the last 5 years and seeing what is possible if you are true to your kaupapa,
Mareikura has decided to publicly announce their support!
Te Ururoa Flavell challenged Mareikura at a public performance in 2007 to “stop singing about it and do it!” and after
much discussion about the pro’s and cons of publicly supporting the Maori Party, they have now decided to accept the
challenge and will now be encouraging all of their families, friends and supporters to give two ticks to the Maori Party
and to ignore the crazy seeds of doubt that will appear during the lead up to election day.
Senior Tutors Anna Buchannan and Jahmaine Cummings are more than confident that the Maori Party will look after the
interests of young people, their families
Chairperson Kahu Roberts says “Rahui Katene doesn’t need to rally for the support of Mareikura, she already has it!!”
As the election campaigns of each party start to come to life, Mareikura encourages all Haka leaders to join their
pledge of 50 years and give two ticks
“If you are looking for the approval of our ancestors, all you have to do is pull out the moteatea books and you will
see that this public support from Haka groups was suppose to have happened generations ago” says Buchanan.
The South Island Competitions are coming up on Labour weekend and Mareikura will be dedicating their entrance item to
Rahui Katene as she gathers the support needed to secure the Te Tai Tonga Maori seat.
