Economic Plan - Part 1 of 2
Finally: A Credible Economic Plan
With chill economic winds blowing and all the mainstream political parties either unaware that the global economy has
changed while they've been out campaigning, or abjectly clueless what to do about it, Libertarianz finance spokesman
Julian Darby released the only credible plan to confront both galloping government deficits and collapsing financial
markets.
"I call it the Don't-Spend-So-Goddamned-Much Plan," he says.
Responsible political parties would know that every cut in taxes must be accompanied by corresponding cuts in government
spending - "Hence the Libertarianz Don't-Spend-So-Goddamned-Much Plan," he says. And responsible parties know too that
when the economy tanks, that government receipts go down - "Hence the urgency of the Libertarianz
Don't-Spend-So-Goddamned-Much Plan."
"This has to be the first and most important step in a responsible 'economic plan' at such a time," says Darby. "Tax
cuts are not credible and genuine recovery is not possible as long as government keeps competing for capital with
profit-making businessmen."
"Stop spending so goddamn much," says Darby, "and you'll still have enough to abolish GST, make the first $50,000 of
income tax-free, and leave New Zealand's economy robust enough to confront whatever the world's central bankers throw at
us. Then the much-needed market corrections can happen as rapidly as they need to, without being prolonged by government
meddling or competing for essential capital with the entrepreneurs who will grow us out of danger."
Instead of sitting at the bottom of the world like a possum in the headlights as we face the collapse of the housing
bubble, a serious credit crunch and signs of an imminent inflationary depression - none of which the major parties give
any sign they've even noticed - Darby maintains the responsible answer at such a time is to urgently work towards a
policy of sound money and a permanent end to deficit spending.
As a matter of urgency, governments need to cut the fat - and there's plenty of it in Helengrad just waiting to be cut
to the bone. Here's just a start of the boondoggles to be axed in the Libertarianz Stop-Spending-So-Goddamned-Much Plan:

such a time," concludes Darby.
"It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!"
