“These are excellent results,” said Hori Parata, chairman of the Maori Party Tai Tokerau Electorate Committee. “They confirm what we’ve been hearing all round the north – Hone’s the man alright.”
TVNZ’s Marae-Digipoll conducted between 15 September 2008 and 7 October 2008, has Hone Harawira leading as preferred candidate by 69% to 26% for Kelvin Davis (a similar poll conducted in 2005 had Harawira 49% over Dover Samuels 30%).
“No offence to the opposition, but Tai Tokerau voted for Hone, not because of the way he dresses or the way he plays politics – but because he’s demonstrated his ability to lead in a whole range of areas, including work trusts, iwi, sports, broadcasting, treaty rights, education, and housing.”
The TVNZ Marae-Digipoll also said that 78% of Tai Tokerau voters were either satisfied or very satisfied with the performance of Hone Harawira as their Member of Parliament.
“Hone walks with us, he talks with us, and more importantly, he walks his talk.”
“I’m very proud of Hone’s performance. Every week Hone’s out and about in the Tai Tokerau, talking to people who haven’t seen an MP for more than 10 years.
“He works for his people, and he deserves the polls he’s got.
