Settlement reached at Fitzroy Engineering
Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union members at Fitzroy Engineering have voted to accept a pay offer from the company, averting strike action at Taranaki’s biggest engineering firm and a major contractor to the region’s oil and gas industry.
The agreement includes a pay increase of 6.5% over 12 months.
EPMU Taranaki organiser Ross Henderson says the agreement sets a benchmark in the industry.
“We’re pleased we were able to get such a good result without having to take industrial action and we’re sure that this will help staff retention at Fitzroy and have a positive impact on the Taranaki economy.
“Six and a half percent is a significant increase given the events of the last few weeks and our members should be proud of what they’ve achieved by sticking together.”
EPMU members at Taranaki engineering firm Tenix Robert Stones last week ratified an agreement with pay rises of between 5 and 12.5% plus double time on Saturdays.
The EPMU represents 50,000 working New Zealanders across 11 industries, including more than 7,000 in heavy engineering.
