Communist League announces candidates for 2008 general election.
The Communist League is campaigning in the 2008 general election to present a working-class alternative to Labour, National, and the other parties of capitalism that defend the interests of the ruling rich.
The League is standing two candidates in Auckland. In Maungakiekie, the candidate is factory worker Patrick Brown, 54. In Manukau East, the candidate is Annalucia Vermunt, 40, a meat worker.
The candidates and their supporters put forward a programme for working people to defend their interests in face of the growing world financial crisis and unfolding recession. They champion union fights and struggles in defence of democratic rights.
The socialist candidates demand the immediate withdrawal of all New Zealand armed forces and police from Afghanistan, East Timor, the Solomon Islands and everywhere else they are stationed. They call for an end to the New Zealand government’s sanctions on Fiji.
