PAPALI’I: "Labour's not our party any more"
Family Party Manukau candidate Papali’i Tuifaasisina Poutoa PAPALI’I will send a strong and clear message to South
Auckland’s pacific voters: “Labour’s not our party any more.”
Mr Papali'i says Labour has abandoned the conservative Christian values of pacific people and that his patience has run
out, hence his reasons for standing with the Family Party.
“I’ve grown increasingly frustrated at the laws coming out of the Labour-led Government that cut across the values of
our community. Examples include liberalising the prostitution laws, criminalising parents who responsibility smack their
children and facilitating child abortions while keeping parents in the dark. I believe Labour has lost its bearings and
headed in a direction that is not in keeping with the values of our electorate. And certainly not in line with the
values of our forebears,” says Mr Papali’i.
Born in 1958 in Samoa: the eldest child of Pailate and Lanuola Papali’i who hail from the villages of Sapapalii and
Saleimoa respectively, his family arrived in Otara in 1962. Today, Otara is home to four generations of the Papali’i
family.
“What I’ve found is that many of our Pacific people are simply not aware of the liberal nature of today’s Labour Party.
But as I educate them they are aghast at these kinds of developments and feel somewhat betrayed in terms of the loyalty
that has traditionally been shown towards Labour. Well, I’m determined to change that by bringing a message that
recovers those traditional family values and puts families first again through my candidacy for Manukau with the
Mr Palali'i's campaign will compliment the last 11 months of work in the Mangere electorate through Galumalemana Jerry
Filipaina, who aims to take the seat off Labour.
The campaign launch will take place tomorrow (20th September) at 11am at the Otara Recreation Centre on Bairds Rd. All
