Papers on economic issues released
How exactly does the economy generate economic growth and what does that imply for policy? What are some different ways
of thinking about economic development? And are Auckland firms more productive than those elsewhere in New Zealand?
These are some of the issues examined in the Ministry of Economic Development’s fourth set of Occasional Papers, which
were released today.
Labour productivity in Auckland firms uses microdata from Statistics New Zealand’s Prototype Longitudinal Business
Database to examine relative labour productivity within Auckland, and between Auckland and the rest of the country.
Inside the Black Box: Policies for Economic Growth explores how the economy generates economic growth, what is actually
going on in an economy when it does so, and what this implies for economic policy.
Ways of thinking about Economic Growth: Papers from MED’s Economic Growth Seminar Series brings the papers produced by
five different economists for five
Ministry seminars together as a resource for those interested in different ways that economists think about economic
growth and development.
Ministry of Economic Development Chief Economist, Roger Procter, said the issues in the papers are highly relevant, and
will inform discussion around economic development issues.
The papers reflect the views of their authors and do not necessarily reflect the Ministry’s or Government’s policy
direction.
