Family Party promises to repeal ETS
It is with deep regret that The Family Party must acknowledge the Emissions Trading Scheme was passed into law on the
10th of September, 2008. Remember this day. This is a sad day in the history of this country. On this day the biggest
economic reform this country has seen since Rogernomics has been put in place, while most of the country didn't even
know about it.
This scheme will do virtually nothing for the environment. It will have little effect on carbon emissions.
But it has the potential to seriously damage our economy, disadvantage New Zealand exporters, force businesses
off-shore, and cause many job losses.
It will cost New Zealand families thousands of dollars a year in increased living costs - for no benefit.
This is lose-lose-lose legislation. The environment loses. The economy loses. New Zealand families lose.
This legislation must be repealed after the election. But National will not do that. They will only tweak it a bit, to
make it slightly less expensive and do even less for the environment. It will still be pointless legislation, just a
slightly different flavour of pointlessness.
The biggest economic reform in two decades needs a strong response. The Family Party is proposing to repeal this
legislation, with a commitment to take a responsible and realistic approach to global environmental issues.
Remember this scheme when you go to vote this election. Remember the parties that have betrayed you and the environment
today. And remember who is promising to fix it.
