Gov's Flag Burning
Republic of New Zealand Party Candidates are burning the Governor General's flag on Sunday the 7th of September at
Government House at 1pm", says Kerry Bevan the party leader.
"Nothing personal Gov. It's constitutional."
This anachronistic connection to our colonial past symbolises an institution that is no longer relevant as kiwis move
forward into the new millennium.
"We don't need the queen or her representative as our head of state."
True Republicans believe in equality and no Head of State is necessary.
Citizens will elect their Prime Minister or President for a limited period.
Pompous privilege is insulting and dangerous in today's world.
Kiwis need to formalise their own symbols, rituals and institutions that reflect who we really are now", Mr Bevan said.
"Seeing our competitors at the Olympics resplendent in black with a fern is wonderful.
Don't you just cringe when our flag is hoisted with the colonial Jack on it?
This confused identity is unbecoming.
We need a mature and significant identify as kiwi citizens and as a Pacific nation", says the Republican leader
The Republic of New Zealand policy is to close the governor general's office.
To have a binding national referendum on our black flag.
A new anthem may be appropriate also. Queen's Birthday will be renamed Constitution day.
