Charges relating to fatal crash near Maungatapere

A 62-year-old man will be appearing in the Whangärei District Court today facing driving charges in relation to a fatal crash near Maungatapere on Saturday (August 16).
A cyclist died after being hit by a car on State Highway 14, just east of Maungatapere and the car left the scene of the crash.
The offender is facing charges of failing to ascertain injury and dangerous driving causing death.
Whangärei Police have secured the vehicle believed to have been involved in the crash and it is being subject to forensic examination.
They are asking for further sightings of a1995/1996 white Subaru Station Wagon which was seen being driven at speed in and around Whangärei just after the time of the reported crash.
The vehicle had been seen driving on Western Hills Drive, Whangärei. It had frontal damage and a broken windscreen.
