SOLO-NZ Press Release: Neville Key Flip-Flops Again!
July 28, 2008
For the second time in as many months, SOLO spokesman Mark Hubbard asks Flip-Flop John Key how he can lead the National Party to the coming election on the back of his announcement he will continue the Working for Families tax credit scam.
"Under his unprincipled leadership, the National Party continues to treat its founding principles, and thus its members, with contempt," Hubbard says.
"How can there be 'individual freedom and choice' when an individual's effort is taken from him/her by force to fund the life-choices of complete strangers? SOLO believes that while it is everyone's right to have children, it is not anyone's right to bring their children up by the forced appropriation of another's efforts. A targeted tax credit system that rewards people for having children effectively punishes those who don't. Government should simply let all taxpayers keep their own hard-earned money.
"How can there be 'personal responsibility' when parents do not need to make responsible decisions about having children: society will pay, whether they be good parents, or whether they be the Kahuis?
"How can there be 'competitive enterprise' when business must continue to shoulder the compliance burden of administering this theft, and bear the over-taxation that could otherwise be used to increase their productivity and competitiveness?
"How can their be 'limited government' when we continue to be burdened by the huge bureaucracies necessary to administer policies such as Working for Families?
"How can we have 'strong families and caring communities' when we continue to sanction the proposition that having a child can be a way to finance the beer and the 'P' bill, thanks to the hard-pressed taxpayer?
"Flip-Flop John is on record as saying he was against this scheme because it extended middle class welfare to high income earners. Mr Key, what has changed?
"Once again, I am forced to conclude that Nanny State will remain rampant under National. If you want your life back; if you truly want individual freedom and choice; if you want strong families and a caring society, which can only be based on the acceptance of personal responsibility, and the jobs provided by competitive enterprise; in short, if you want to achieve the principles ostensibly espoused by the National Party, then there is only one party to put your tick to this election: Libertarianz," Hubbard concludes.
