SOLO-UK Press Release: No Freedom, Please, We're British
July 28, 2008
Contrary to Rule Britannia, Britons ever ever ever shall be slaves, if today's news from Aberystwyth is any indication,
says SOLO Principal Lindsay Perigo.
He's commenting on a Guardian report that a painter and decorator in the west Welsh town has been fined £30 for smoking
in his own van because it was deemed to be a workplace.
Gordon Williams was on the way to buy teabags for his wife when he incurred the on-the-spot fine.
The van is insured as a private vehicle and he only uses it to travel between jobs.
Mr. Williams had lit up after being stopped by police for a routine roadworthiness check. "I was just having a cigarette
and causing no bother to anyone else. But this is like Big Brother is watching you."
A passenger in his van, who had also just lit up, received a £30 "fixed penalty notice" as well.
"In what purports to be a free country, one should at least be free to smoke a cigarette in the privacy of one's own
vehicle, whether travelling for personal or work purposes," says Perigo.
"That this type of rampant nico-nazism is now routine throughout Britain is symptomatic of that once-great country's
slide into politically correct petty-tyranny.
"Britons should be revolting. Would that a cigar-touting Winston Churchill were around today to rouse them to it, just
as he roused them against the fanatical anti-smoker Hitler," Perigo concludes.
