A woman in her 60's was assaulted and robbed after an intruder broke into her home in the early hours of this morning.
The woman woke to find an intruder about 1.40am this morning in her house in Tyndale Place, Avonhead. She has suffered moderate injuries.
Detective Sergeant Ross Tarawhiti says that police are appealing for anyone who was in the area or passing through at around that time to contact him.
"We'd like to talk with anyone who may have been walking or driving through, or happened to be awake or looked outside. They may have seen a person or vehicle that caught their eye. There are two walkways from Tyndale Place, which give foot access to Godfrey Place and Corfe Street," he says.
Police will be making house to house inquiries in the area today.
DS Tarawhiti can be contacted on phone 344 0661.
