The Kiwi Party Releases Law And Order Policy
The Kiwi Party released its Law and Order policies this weekend at the Party’s Hawkes Bay Regional Conference.
Party Leader Larry Baldock said he was confident that when these policies are implemented by the next Government they
would make a significant improvement to the safety and well being of Kiwis all over New Zealand.
"The release of these policies completes the second part of our approach to the serious concerns shared by many within
New Zealand society," said Mr Baldock.
"Having collected over 300,000 signatures on a petition urging the Government to understand and address the wider causes
of family breakdown, family violence and child abuse, we are aware that the public of New Zealand know that to be
successful at reducing crime we must be both tough on crime and the cause of crime.
"Our plans for a Royal Commission to 'understand and address the wider causes of family breakdown, family violence and
child abuse', and tackle issues of fatherlessness and welfare reform are vital if we are to make progress in the fight
against the breeding grounds of crime in our communities.
"Now, however, we turn our attention to addressing the deteriorating situations arising from drug and alcohol abuse and
the fiasco of some of the sentencing of criminals guilty of terrible acts of senseless violence.
"We must provide more detox and rehab facilities and ensure that our prisons are drug free.
"We must also tackle the task of addressing the backlog of criminal cases on our courts for speedier justice. Then our
sentencing must reflect the seriousness of the crimes committed and respect victim’s rights. The Kiwi Party supports
eliminating parole for serious violent offences.
"Due to our being in Napier this weekend, which is the home of the national office of The Sensible Sentencing Trust, we
we have taken the opportunity to present a copy of our policies to a representative of SST prior to our conference
commencing. We will look forward to their response to our serious commitment to addressing the increasing violence in
our communities," said Mr Baldock.
In due course the Kiwi Party will present the same policies to representatives of our Asian communities in Auckland that
have been recently affected by senseless violence.
