“Youth Taking the Lead For A Sustainable Future”
Global Youth Leadership Development Organization
AIESEC New Zealand recently held its annual strategic planning conference at the University of Auckland. One of the main objectives of the 5 day event was a move towards a Sustainable Future.
AIESEC partnered with CarboNZero, an organization that provides solutions for greenhouse gas measurement, mitigation and management. May Chang and Sam Bridgman from CarboNZero educated AIESEC members on the importance of taking an initiative to build a greener and brighter future. The delegates at conference were encouraged to “think not just if but how, when and where they can make a difference”. CarboNZero also helped AIESEC in its milestone achievement to offset its carbon footprint from running a conference through the purchase of carbon credits and education on mitigation.
AIESEC New Zealand aims to develop “ambassadors of a greener future” through such partnerships. The organization is pioneering the cause of proactively engaging the youth of New Zealand in taking a stand on issues of environmental sustainability. AIESEC will be running several projects on sustainability within their local communities in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Palmerston North and Christchurch and will send students and graduates abroad on overseas internships in fields of development. AIESEC is the first youth organization in NZ to address its green credentials and believes “If all of us do a little, none of us have to do a lot”. Thereby, paving the way for a more carbon free future.
