Libertarianz Supports Call for Self Defense Rights
"Protecting citizens from violence is one of the few legitimate functions of government," Libertarianz Ohariu electorate candidate and professional self defense instructor Sean Fitzpatrick said today. "However, New Zealand's Nanny State has proven itself inept in this role with fatal consequences."
"To add insult to injury, Nanny also forbids citizens from protecting themselves under pain of prosecution. It seems that, if subjected to criminal violence, we must all meekly accept the mantle of sitting ducks unless Nanny can be bothered helping us at the time," Fitzpatrick says.
"Libertarianz sympathizes with the frustrations expressed recently by members of the South Auckland Asian migrant community and their disgust at this state of affairs. All New Zealanders need to ask themselves: are these relative newcomers to our nation, unaffected by generations of Nanny's conditioning, highlighting a truth our political masters are refusing to see?"
"Nanny-worshipper Chris Carter's cliche about 'not taking the law into their own hands' is a typical a la mode comment that misses the point. A citizen's individual safety IS in their own hands - and always will be. The police will never be able to be everywhere at all times and it would be utterly undesirable for them to be so. Only a populace free to protect itself will ever be truly protected from violent criminals."
"Libertarianz will amend the New Zealand Bill of Rights to reinforce the right to self defense and thereby send a clear message to criminals that the state is there to back up law abiding citizens, not to provide a safe working environment for robbers, rapists and thugs."
