Govt fails to deliver on Dyslexia week
Kiwi Party Leader Larry Baldock and Dyslexia spokesperson James Ross gave their full support to the efforts of the
Dyslexia Foundation of NZ who are seeking to meet the needs of 70,000 New Zealand children with Dyslexia.
Mr Baldock and Mr Ross said, "The government should have announced funding for an immediate study into what would be the
best way of ensuring that children suffering form dyslexia can be assisted with their education so they do not fall
through the cracks and miss out on their educational birth right. Children do not choose how they learn, therefore all
different learning styles need to be funded equally.
"When a survey reveals that 99 per cent of teachers and education professionals believe that allocating funding for
dyslexic students would benefit all children, surely it is time for the Minister of Education to do something!
"Once again the Government has acknowledged that a need exists yet has done nothing to address that need. Where is the
justice in a situation where the Government could find 9 million dollars of taxpayer money to waste for Winston Peters
to give to horse racing prize money, while denying our children their educational rights," they said.
