Plea For Male Mentors In Auckland Region
The Foundation for Youth Development (FYD) is seeking male mentors to volunteer two hours a month for a year, to help develop the potential of a young New Zealander through the organisations flagship programme, Project K.
“Our last mentor training saw only one male attending,” says Lisa Easte, Project K Mentor Inquiries Co-ordinator for Auckland. “We would like to increase the number of males that come to our next training in Takapuna on July 19th & 26th. The first commitment is the training only and from there a decision can be made to continue or not.”
As a leading organisation managing three proven programmes (Kiwi Can, Project K and Stars) designed to lift the skills, motivations and achievements of young New Zealanders, FYD frequently witnesses the amazing contributions young people make to society.
“Given the opportunity and with the right support it’s amazing what young people can achieve,” says FYD co-founder Graeme Dingle.
A Project K student said this about their relationship with their mentor, “My mentor is fantastic and always there to help and have a laugh with, they’re like part of the family. They have helped me achieve so much, like getting my first job, encouraging me and helping me study for my driver’s license and keeping me on track with my goals.”
