Over 300 property lawyers will converge on Auckland for the New Zealand Law Society’s biennial Property Law Conference
in Auckland on 16 and 17 June. The conference is organised by the society’s Continuing Legal Education Department, in
partnership with the Property Law Section.
Conference and Property Law Section Chair Chris Moore says the conference is a popular way for lawyers to keep up to
date with the variety of legislative developments and challenges over the past few months, foremost of those being the
new Property Law Act.
However, Mr Moore noted that “the new Act represents only a fraction of the issues which confront property lawyers on a
daily basis so this conference will cover such diverse issues as reverse equity mortgages, ownership issues, indemnities
and construction contracts”.
The keynote speaker this year, Gareth Kiernan, Managing Director of Infometrics, will address the conference on the
recent changes in the property market, the key drivers of that and expected influences and effects on the market in the
coming years.
More than 30 guest speakers will address a range of subjects such as the new Unit Titles Bill, e-dealing and electronic
settlements, buying and selling businesses, succession planning, and compliance with the Securities Act for developers.
