Wanted: Six Members of Parliament
How do you recruit a Member of Parliament (MP)? In a bold move, the icount political party (www.icount.co.nz) has
enlisted job recruitment sites Seek and Trade Me to recruit six MPs prior to the 2008 election. The recently formed
icount party enables its members to have a continual say in the direction of New Zealand by voting and commenting on
every political decision put before Parliament. The icount MPs will be responsible for enacting these political
decisions in Parliament.
"The MP job advertisement is serious, but slightly tongue in cheek", says Paul O'Connor, icount Party President. "Yes,
we are serious about recruiting icount MPs, and we have received numerous applications from a number of fantastic
candidates."
For interested candidates, the job advertisement reads as follows:
Candidates must have the following attributes:
● Desire, passion and ability to help New Zealand move ahead
● A sound understanding of how the New Zealand political system operates
● A strong understanding of several specialist topic (see the icount discussion area) areas eg Health, Education
● Strong written skills to help inform a balanced view for icount members on political decisions
● Ability to work with other parties and icount members to form policies and law
● Personal Integrity (eg no punching other MPs, no exaggerating or lying to voters)

● Base $126,200

● Executive assistant in his or her parliamentary office
