Jordan Carter, Labour's candidate in the Hunua electorate, has responded to the announcement by the ACT Party this
afternoon that their candidate in the electorate will be the Hon Sir Roger Douglas.
"I welcome Roger Douglas' as the ACT candidate in this seat, because ACT is the party that is honest about National's
real agenda," said Jordan Carter.
"A vote for National or ACT is a vote for Roger Douglas at the Cabinet table in any John Key National government.
"Voters in Hunua now have two candidates to choose between. Sir Roger and I know what we stand for and, more
importantly, we are prepared to be up front about it.
"I believe in the fundamental equality of all people, and am campaigning for two ticks for Labour so New Zealand has a
government that puts a fair go for everyone at the top of its priority list.
"Sir Roger Douglas believes in slashing tax to give the most back to those who already have the highest incomes. He
believes in dismantling New Zealand's entire welfare state, continuing the work he began in the 1980s.
"The current gap in incomes between our country and Australia emerged under the economic policies that Roger Douglas and
ACT stand for, and that National also believes in. Since Labour was elected in 1999, and changed direction under Michael
Cullen's stewardship, the gap has at last started to close.
"A return to the fringe policies of the ACT Party in coalition with a National government will deliver just what it
delivered last time it was tried: slower growth, lower wages and a tougher life for Kiwis.
"At least ACT is honest about its agenda. Roger Douglas wants to be finance minister in a John Key government.
"That would mean that ACT's policies were driving the agenda. National shares the same agenda but won't say so - until
after the election.
"I welcome the contest to come, and look forward to explaining the consequences of a vote for Roger Douglas all around
Hunua during this year's campaign," Jordan Carter said.
