Kick bad habits on World Environment Day
3 June 2008
The Auckland Regional Council will be encouraging people to kick their CO2 habit this World Environment Day.
ARC staff will be handing out free energy efficient light bulbs and re-usable cotton bags at major transport hubs on
June 5 as part of a joint initiative with Auckland and Waitakere city councils and Auckland Regional Transport Authority
(ARTA).
The promotion takes place between 7.30am and 9.30am on World Environment Day at the locations below:
- Britomart transport centre
- Downtown ferry building
- Henderson Transport interchange
- Albany bus station
- Papakura train station
- Manurewa interchange
ARC spokeswoman Cathy Klouwens says everyone will also have the opportunity to go in the draw to win free public
transport for a year on buses, trains and ferries from ARTA, visit www.arta.co.nz or www.maxx.co.nz for further
information.
ARC staff on World Environment Day will also distribute 10 tips to save money and the environment pamphlets to 22
Citizen Advice Bureaus and NZ Federation of Family Budgeting Services offices in the Auckland region.
Auckland Regional Council Environmental Management chair Dianne Glenn says: “These initiatives are a very practical way
to celebrate World Environment Day and raise awareness about how everyday actions can help to save our environment”.
