Labour selects Don Pryde for Clutha-Southland
Don Pryde says he is honoured to have been selected as Labour’s candidate for Clutha-Southland this election.
A Dunedin-based electrical technician and national president of the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union, Pryde
secured the selection on Friday at a meeting of local party members.
Pryde, 49, is a father of three with a strong record of community service including his current position as chair of the
electrical workers’ registration board and seven years as chair of his local primary school’s board of trustees.
He was first elected as a representative on the EPMU’s national executive in 1994 and has served as national president
since 2005.
Pryde says he is honoured to have been selected to represent Labour in the electorate and is looking forward to the
campaign.
“It is a great honour and a privilege to have been selected as Labour’s candidate in Clutha-Southland. I look forward to
contesting the seat and to increasing the party vote for Labour this election.”
“What I can offer the people of Clutha-Southland is effective representation and a proven track record of advocating for
working families.
“At a time when price rises are putting pressure on family budgets I believe it’s more important than ever that working
people have a representative who understands their concerns and is working in their interests.
“While I’m under no illusions that this will be an easy race I’m looking forward to what will no doubt be a tough but
positive campaign.”
