NZ Police Make Key ICT Appointment

New Zealand Police has appointed experienced ICT practitioner Murray Mitchell as ICT Manager.
Mr Mitchell has had more than 20 years in the ICT industry working in key public and private industries including aviation, telecommunications and New Zealand Police at senior levels.
Currently, Mr Mitchell is Head of Application Development, Maintenance and Support with Telecom New Zealand where he has also been Head of Resource and Business Integration.
During his time with Police he was National Manager of Applications including being the strategist and programme director for the migration of the Law Enforcement System to NZ Police and Justice systems. He received two Police Commissioner's awards for his work in this area.
Mr Mitchell says he is looking forward to leading Police ICT to deliver the exciting initiatives covered by the group's strategic plan.
"This plan was developed in close consultation with the districts and there are many projects Police ICT has in the pipeline which will directly benefit the frontline."
His experience and skills encompass national communications systems, 24 x 7 applications and operations support, applications development, programme and project management, information management, resource management, financial management and vendor management.
He takes up the role of Police ICT Manager in May.

The Police ICT Service Centre manages and develops the technology used by Police - including computing, telephony and radio.
The group has around 300 staff working in a large and diverse ICT environment which includes:• IT management of one of New Zealand's largest private networks for voice and data communications.• More than 6500 computers and 1650 printers from Kaitaia to Bluff.• A data network covering more than 380 police stations and exceeding 99.9% target availability.• 10,500 desk phones and 2600 mobile phones.• More than 300 radio sites feeding communications to more than 2500 vehicles, foot patrols (3000 handheld radios) and stations.
