Sue Bradford Selected for East Coast Bays
Media Release from the North Shore Green Party
The Green Party has selected candidates in East Coast Bays and Northcote for this year’s general election.
Third term Green MP, Sue Bradford, has been selected for the East Coast Bays electorate and Jeanette Elley has been
selected for Northcote electorate.
Ms Bradford lives in Torbay and has family connections with the area dating back to 1921 when her grandfather built a
bach in Long Bay. Her mother lives there now.
Ms Bradford says improved public transport and protecting the great lifestyle local people have through their access to
beautiful beaches and open spaces are important to her.
“I spent my childhood summers on the beach at Long Bay and when my first children were babies we lived there” she says.
“Four generations of my family have enjoyed the wonderful East Coast Bays beaches and the areas around them. I am
dedicated to preserving them for the children of the future.
“People have migrated here from all over the world to enjoy the quality of life we have but we risk losing it all in our
rush to develop every inch of unoccupied space.
“I know many East Coast Bays residents share these concerns. Giving their party vote to the Green Party is the way to
make sure their voices are heard.”
Ms Bradford says we have to find better ways of dealing with economic problems like increasing food and petrol prices.
“It is not fair to expect those who can least afford it to carry the burden of coping with climate change and peak oil,”
she says.
“We have to organise ourselves so we are looking after both people and the environment.”
Ms Elley was a Green Party candidate in the 2002 and 2005 elections. She is the information systems manager for the
Community Alcohol and Drugs Service and has a strong interest in the environment, energy and economics.
She wants a better public transport system, including more ferries, and is a strong supporter of a cycle lane over the
harbour bridge.
“I want a healthier society for people to live in,” she says.
