Christchurch Says Enough Is Enough
A public meeting being organised in Christchurch will give residents a chance to express their feelings on the recent
murders and the escalation of violent crime in their City.
Christchurch MP Nicky Wagner is saying enough is enough and has organised the meeting in response to public concern that
their City was now rated as the most violent in New Zealand.
Another local who is saying enough is enough is Leah Matena, the Christchurch representative for the Sensible Sentencing
Trust, Leah has joined forces with Nicky Wagner to promote the meeting.
Recent Statistics show Christchurch was second in total crimes and had the highest recorded level of violent crime.
Leah says she is fed up with escalating crime in Christchurch and is urging the public to support the meeting and send a
message to the Government.
“Most of the crime is being committed by repeat offenders who are simply being recycled and put back on the streets –
this meeting is to tell the Government we want a tough stance on criminals.”
“Crime IS on the increase with statistics showing that we are worse than Auckland at present! Recently we have had
horrific, gutless crimes such as the violent murders of both Emma Agnew and Marie Davis. Our streets are awash with
crime, they are NOT safe to walk, day or night. Tourists are being attacked in the city, we are being held to ransom by
a few and yet we are many”.
Leah’s message to Christchurch is, “Don’t sit back continuing to be apathetic to what is happening, actually do
something!
“Together we can make a difference. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!” Ends
The meeting will be opened by Mayor Bob Parker with the founder of the Sensible Sentencing Trust Garth McVicar being a
guest speaker.
The meeting will be in held the Christchurch Town Hall [Limes Room] at 7-30pm on 7th May.
