Salvation Army “no to gambling cash” a winner
The Kiwi Party
Press Release
April 24,2008
Kiwi Party leader Larry Baldock applauded the decision by the Salvation Army announced today to not receive money from
gambling sources.
“At our recent South Island conference, I announced our policy to give every tax payer the opportunity to donate $100
of their PAYE tax direct to the charity of their choice. I outlined then that this was a one component in a strategy we
hoped would enable charities to wean themselves off reliance on the proceeds from pokie machines and pub charities,
itself a form of tax upon the poor”.
“The idea that we can sanction the robbing of the poor to help the poor would cause Robin Hood to turn over in his
grave”.
“In this instance, the Salvation Army has shown leadership in the community by making this strong commitment; and we
congratulate them for it.
