Firearms Stolen In Burglary

Wellington Police are investigating a burglary in Ohariu Valley over the weekend during which several firearms and rounds of ammunition were stolen.
Detective Sergeant Martin Todd, Wellington CIB, said offenders broke into the residential property between 3pm on Saturday 19 April and 4pm Sunday 20 April. The house, which was unoccupied at the time, was searched, the gun safe found and forced open.
Several weapons including Bruno brand Rifles, semi-automatic Ruger brand Rifles and .22 calibre ammunition were taken.
Detective Sergeant Todd is appealing to people in the Takarau Gorge Road/Ohariu Valley area at the time to contact police if they saw anyone, vehicles or other suspicious activity. If anyone has any information regarding this burglary they can contact the Wellington Police in confidence, phone 0800 TIPOFF.
"It is a timely reminder to all firearms license holders to store their firearms, bolts and ammunition separately, all in areas that can be secured," Detective Sergeant Todd said.
Police have alerted gunshops about the burglary in case the offenders try to sell them.
