Strong Message From Voters In TVNZ7 Colmar Brunton Poll
The Green Party and the Maori Party face some tough coalition options, in light of research produced by Colmar Brunton
for The Kingmaker Debate, which launches TVNZ's next digital channel TVNZ 7 at midday on Sunday 30 March. While the
Greens and the Maori Party have both said they could work with either major party voters overwhelmingly believe they
would work better with Labour – 73% in the case of the Greens and 64% for the Maori Party. Research for
The Kingmaker Debate also delves into the thoughts of New Zealanders on some key election issues which will be covered
during the debate:
• On race relations the TVNZ 7 Colmar Brunton poll asked which group was the most privileged in New Zealand. The
largest response (43%) was that Maori were the most privileged
• The group seen as the least privileged was Pakeha New Zealanders
• On MMP New Zealanders are generally happy with the system (59%)
• On the environment 66% of those polled said that would be an important factor when deciding which party to vote
for
• On law and order 80% of New Zealanders believe we should outlaw gangs and 37% believe we should bring back the
death penalty (37%)
• When looking at Treaty of Waitangi settlements New Zealanders are less optimistic than the government. While
Labour aims to wind up the process by 2020, of those polled 28% expect it to take more than 20 years and 9% believe it
will never end The TVNZ 7 Colmar Brunton poll was conducted between 5 and 19 March, on a sample of 750 eligible voters.
It has a margin of error of 3.6%.
