National wise to shun Douglas policies, says Kiwi Party
"Act's return to Rogernomics is about as daft as their plans last week to sell discounted party pills to university
students, and reveal a party that has completely lost any sense of principle", says Kiwi Party Leader, Larry Baldock.
"NZ is about to have one of the most generous charitable tax deduction schemes in the world. With ACT's desperate
attempt to gain support by bringing Roger Douglas out of retirement it is worthwhile reminding ourselves that it was Sir
Roger who planned to remove the charitable status of churches and any tax rebate for donations".
"The passing of the legislation prior to Christmas 2007 was in fact the culmination of 20 years of work for MP Gordon
Copeland. Gordon was appointed to the position of chairman of inter-church working party on taxation when Roger Douglas
announced his ill-conceived plans to remove the tax free status of churches and end tax rebates for donations back in
the late 1980's".
"A return to the harsh extreme right 'free market solves all problems' type policies are not wanted by the vast majority
of New Zealanders".
Mr Baldock said the social impact of Douglas's free market policies, and carried on by National finance ministers such
as Ruth Richardson and Bill Birch, had been disastrous.
"Today we have people burdened by stress, busier than ever and with family life suffering".
"The Kiwi Party has already made it clear it will seek a change of Government and will be prepared to support John Key
as New Zealand's new Prime Minister".
"These kinds of antics from the ACT Party will illustrate to National that the Kiwi Party is their natural coalition
partner" said Mr Baldock.
