There are few organisations these days where 35 years of service is encouraged or celebrated.
The NZ Police is one of the exceptions and today awards are being given to 12 officers for 35 Years Long Service and Good Conduct. Between them they have 420 years of service.
The members of the David Thomson Cadet Wing of 1973 will be awarded their 35 year service clasp by the Minister of Police, Hon. Annette King at a ceremony at Parliament.
The recipients include Sergeant David Templeton, region dog trainer for Auckland Metro who was commended for bravery in 2007 for his part in apprehending Anton Dixon.
Police Commissioner Howard Broad says after 35 years the officers would have a huge wealth of experience and knowledge and more than one story to tell
"Policing has changed enormously in 35 years. The organisation is different as are the communities we serve. I commend not only their commitment to the job and to the organisation but the fact that they have adapted to the changes over the years."
Media are welcome to attend the awarding of the clasps at 3pm, today in the Banquet Hall, Parliament buildings.
