Funding Boost Welcomed
The New Zealand Council of Christian Social Services (NZCCSS) is very pleased with the decision by Government this week
to fully fund NGOs that provide essential social services. NZCCSS believes the much needed additional funding to social
services providers will assist the process of building more robust communities and healthier families.
“Ensuring social service organisations are properly funded to deliver essential services will help to properly support
poor and vulnerable New Zealanders” says NZCCSS President, Ross Kendrew. “The developments announced today will
contribute to a more just and compassionate society, a society that recognises the value of community organisations
working with and for their communities to grow a more robust society”.
“Under the previous partial funding system Christian social service providers have been struggling with meeting the
needs of their communities. NZCCSS has been receiving reports of ever growing demand and increasingly difficult social
problems faced by providers” says Trevor McGlinchey, NZCCSS Executive Officer, “Full funding of essential services will
result in families and communities being able to access the support they need for positive development”.
NZCCSS Vice President Shaun Robertson is pleased that today’s announcements recognise the need for a long term process
to build the capacity of social service organisations and the communities they work in. “This decision is taking a long
term view, looking at issues of capacity, compliance and funding. NZCCSS is looking forward to working with Government
in ensuring the policy intent results in real progress for our families and communities”.
