A day for Sir Ed

A day for Sir Ed
Edmund Hillary day should replace Queen’s Birthday as a public holiday says Party leader, Kerry Bevin.
“Sir Ed was simply the greatest New Zealander of our time, a true inspiration for us now and for future generations.”
Mr Bevin said the Party had noted the business community’s opposition to an additional public holiday, because of the ensuing costs.
“This proposal answers that objection.”
Mr Bevin said it is important for a young nation like New Zealand to remember its heroes.
“A public holiday each year to celebrate the life of this New Zealand icon will be far more meaningful to New Zealanders than paying homage to a foreign queen.”
Today however our thoughts should be with Sir Ed’s family and friends and I take this opportunity on behalf of the Republic of NZ Party to offer our sincere condolences.
