SOLO-NZ Press Release: RNZ = National Socialist Radio ... Still!
Lindsay Perigo
January 20, 2008
Radio New Zealand's longstanding far-left bias continues undiminished, notes SOLO Principal Lindsay Perigo.
"If anything, its hostility to western values has become worse," says Perigo, himself a former Morning Report presenter, in the wake of RNZ's response to a SOLO op-ed late last week about the Urewera wannabe terrorists.
The article, by Wellington student Phil Howison, summarised the known evidence in the matter and concluded:
The police were fully justified in their actions. Aside from the Dominion Post [5] and the Christchurch Press, the media appear to have swallowed the stories of Tuhoe activists hook, line and sinker, resulting in myths such as the police search of a schoolbus (which never happened) and only four weapons being seized (it was 20) being repeated without question. It was the poorly drafted Terrorism Suppression Act which has left New Zealand almost defenceless, legally speaking, against a serious internal threat by well-armed, well-organized extremists, including many violent criminals, who sought ties with the terrorist state sponsor Iran, and who planned to kill people for practice. In short, the enemies of Western civilization itself. Congratulations to the New Zealand Police for their skilled and professional response, and shame on the media, politicians and activists who have attempted to minimize a very real threat to our security.
Back from RNZ came the following:
Thankyou for your opinions Mr Howison. Can RNZ please be removed immediately from any mailing lists under your control. Thank you. RNZ News.
"SOLO will not be removing RNZ from its mailing list, because SOLOists are among the taxpayers who involuntarily fund RNZ," says Perigo.
"RNZ News is supposed to be impartial on matters of public contention, not to take the side of the enemies of western civilisation simply because most of its journalists do. For RNZ News to refuse to consider a well-argued opinion that the police were correct in this matter, and blackball its source, is treachery to journalism, not to mention to the country.
"RNZ News assuredly would not block op-eds and press releases by Peace Action Wellington or any of the other groups allegedly implicated in this affair; rather, it would be more likely to lead its bulletins with them.
"As RNZ's co-employers and co-funders, we SOLOists expect similar consideration," Perigo concludes.
