NZ Police Alert: Accidental Drowning, Waiau River

Incident Type: Accidental Drowning
A 6 year old Katikati boy was found face-down in the Waiau River at approximately 4.30pm on the 26th of December 2007.
The 6yr old, his mother, stepfather and brother were camping at the Athenree Lavender Holiday Park next to the river, at the time.
The child was seen riding his bicycle arouind the camp shortly before being discovered in the river, only meters from the family camp site.
Unsuccessful resuscitation attempts were administered by the family, campers, and the Waihi Ambulance Service upon their arrival at the scene.
The death is being treated by local Police, as accidental.
