More madness possible from Electoral Finance Bill
So Tim Shadbolt is threatening to ‘bring down the Government’ if it reduces funding for Invercargill’s Southern
Institute of Technology [SIT] [see today’s NZ Herald page A5]
If that funding is reduced Mayor Shadbolt will presumably keep his threat and start his attack on the Government.
However, if he keeps going after 1st January – just 18 days away – he will come under the scrutiny of the administrators
of the Electoral Finance Bill, which is due to be finally passed into law next Tuesday.
So, will the Mayor, or the Invercargill City Council, need to register as a ‘Third Party’?
And if they are found guilty of any corrupt or illegal practise who will pay the fine – or serve the prison sentence?
And what if Glenfield Community Board, on which I serve, decided to battle against the government on rates or Auckland
governance issues?
Would we need to register as a ‘Third Party’?
Even though we would be ‘acting as advocates’ for our residents, which the Local Government Act requires us to do!
Crazy beyond belief!!!
