Press Release
For Immediate Release. Republicans Call to Respect the Queen.
The Republic of NZ Party wishes to add its voice to the condemnation of Ms Clark's behaviour during the Queen's opening address to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Uganda last Friday.
"There's no place for New Zealand's prime minister showing such disrespect towards the head of state of another country," says Tauranga candidate Hans Laven.
Further adds Laven, why go all that way at the tax payers expense just to sit there and text home. While bothering going at all if it is just to embarrass us like this.
"Although the Republican Party seeks to replace the Monarchy as New Zealand's head of state, our relationship with England remains important. Ms Clark's rudeness has damaged that relationship."
Mr Laven attributes Ms Clark's rude behaviour to a growing arrogance in the Labour government.
"This is the same arrogance that has seen the Labour government introduce one law after another against the wishes of the clear majority of New Zealanders," says Laven.
