DYSON OFF TO A BAD START
Thursday 8 November 2007
The new Minister of Social Development and Employment, Ruth Dyson, today told Parliament that only 3.9 percent of the working-age population is reliant on a sickness or invalid's benefit.
Welfare commentator Lindsay Mitchell said it was rather ironic that Ms Dyson was telling National MP Judith Collins to be more 'robust' with her figures when the latest benefit fact sheets clearly show that 4.9 percent of working-age people are on one of these benefits.
"The difference equates to around 25,000 people. The Minister needs to get and give better advice."
