Rainbow Wellington congratulates Maryan Street
Rainbow Wellington today welcomed the appointment of Maryan Street to the Cabinet as Minister for ACC and for Housing.
“This is an important step,” said chair Tony Simpson. “Maryan, who is one of our vice patrons, is the first out lesbian to attain Cabinet status in New Zealand, and in doing so joins a very select pioneer band around the world. It is evidence that despite the intolerant statements one hears from time to time, that New Zealand remains an open and tolerant society in which people are judged by their actions and personal abilities and in which we draw on all of our citizens for what they can contribute”
“We applaud the appointment, and look forward to seeing Maryan serve her fellow citizens in a senior executive position for many years to come.”
