EECA congratulates Leopard Coachlines on taking biofuels to the streets
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) congratulates Leopard Coachlines on being the first bus company in New Zealand to run their entire fleet of 100 diesel vehicles on a five percent biodiesel blend (B5).
“This is exactly what New Zealand needs,” says Mike Underhill Chief Executive of EECA. “Forward thinking businesses that realise the competitive and environmental benefits of biofuels and that take the lead ahead of any regulations.
“The coming decades will see a huge shift in the types of fuels we use and the types of technologies that drive our vehicles. Well done to Leopard for being at the forefront of this fundamental change. Taking biofuels to the streets allows the public to see sustainable principles in action.
“The introduction of biofuels to our New Zealand vehicle fleet is a significant move towards reducing our high level of dependence on fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel.”
The biodiesel for the Leopard fleet is manufactured by Bio Diesel Oils NZ Ltd from tallow and supplied in bulk to Leopard, where it is blended with standard diesel to form the B5 mix.
