Future is secure and fruitful under Labour
Budget 07
Thursday, 17 May, 2007
The Labour Government’s 2007 Budget, announced today, focused on saving and future financial security for New Zealand. Young Labour applauded the budget that provided innovative vision for a sustainable future for all New Zealanders.
“This is what a government should be doing, ” said Young Labour President Meg Bates “delivering policies that consider the future and security of its people.”
“Young Labour is particularly pleased that the government didn’t bow to pressure over the ridiculous push for personal tax cuts. Tax cuts might be satisfying for voters briefly but at a time when New Zealanders are spending more than they earn personal tax cuts would be irresponsible and wasteful.”
“Instead Labour has delivered a budget that gives back to New Zealanders in the form of savings contributions for secure futures.”
Ms Bates stated that today’s budget proved that the eight successful years of innovative Labour policy were only the beginning of ensuring a sustainable and productive future for New Zealand. “This government has proven time and again that they have the best interests of all New Zealanders at heart and that New Zealand is an exciting, diverse, financially secure and fruitful country under Labour. It has also proven that Labour has the best team of people to lead us into the future.”
Young Labour is particularly pleased that under the initiatives announced in today’s budget home ownership will be a possibility for people young and old throughout New Zealand. “This budget gives a real boost to young people working to afford a house and owning a house is something all kiwis dream of achieving.”
