Organic Beer and Wine Festival
On May 4th, Students for Environmental Action (SEA) would like to change the way you think about organics by hosting a
night full of tasty treats, beers and wines.
For the past four years, Students for Environmental Action (SEA) have been organising the event to promote the
availability of organic beers and wines in Dunedin. "The festival is always well attended by both students and the wider
Dunedin community and is a positive event for a university student group to be involved in", says Sarah Cleland, the
organiser of this year's event.
The Organic festival will be held at Backstage on bath street. Doors open at 8 pm and a door cover of 5 dollars includes
free beer samples and refreshments from Taste nature of Dunedin and Chantal foods of Napier. Local and national beers
will be available on the night from Founders, Greenman, Emersons and Greenfern breweries. Castle Macadam wines in
Mornington is supplying organic wines for the evening.
The Organic Beer and Wine festival is deeply rooted in local Dunedin music featuring Ecophonik, Monica Yeoman and the
Nouveau Rich, Deb Morgan and the debut of Sneakysound Underground. The liaison officer of Otago Organics, Andy Barrett
is involved as a speaker in the event and has the view that "as New Zealand begins to face up to the challenges posed by
the twin threats of climate change and peak oil, organic agriculture will inevitably have an ever-greater role to play
as we shift towards truly sustainable ways of producing food."
