Who is Ali Reza Panah?
A small group of human rights activists will gather outside Mt Eden Prison from 1pm to 2pm this afternoon to protest the detainment of Ali Reza Panah.
Ali is an Iranian in who has been kept in Mt Eden Prison for the past 18 months despite having committed no crime or being convicted of any offence. He is in a similar circumstance to Thomas Yadegary who was released a month ago after 29 months detention without trial.
GPJA understands there are four other Iranians in the prison as well in not dissimilar circumstances.
Saturday's protest is being organised at short notice but marks the start of a wider campaign to have immigration laws changed to support the human rights of refugees and asylum seekers.
